After graduating from high school, Klaus-Michael Kuehne completed a two-year banking apprenticeship. This was followed by a thorough training at forwarding and shipping companies, with shipping agents, as well as gaining first-hand experience at Kuehne + Nagel’s European and overseas branches.
In 1963, Klaus-Michael Kuehne became a general partner in his father’s company and two years later was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of the newly founded Kuehne + Nagel Speditions-AG.

The public interest Kuehne Foundation, set up by the Kuehne family in 1976, has as its sole donor Klaus-Michael Kuehne. The Foundation’s objective is to support training and further education measures as well as to foster science and research in the fields of transport and logistics. The Foundation also supports research in medical science as well as sponsoring humanitarian, charitable and cultural projects.
