John Emery, an officer in the Naval Air Transport Service and a peace time Railway Express manager, founded Emery Air Freight as a result of his war-time experiences. His son, John Emery, Jr. joined the company after his own release from Naval Service. John Jr. began his Emery career as a pick-up truck driver. In his own career he served as a street salesman, New York sales manager, district manager, regional manager, vice president of sales and executive vice president. He led Emery Airfreight from an $80,000,000 company to revenues of $1.2 billion dollars at his retirement. Emery operated 180 offices with 10,000 employees from its modest beginnings as the first certificated American forwarder. His personal experiences, leadership, and vision remain alive in the highly successful integrated Logistics Company - Emery Worldwide.
