Einarsson, born in Reykjavik, Iceland, began his career as an Iceland Prime Contractor with General Supt at Keflavik Airport, Iceland. In 1962, Einarsson was asked to take on the duties and responsibilities of technical manager at Loftleidir Icelandic and over time went from his original position to director of corporate planning and to senior director of operations and maintenance. During the mid-1970's, Einarsson served as corporate secretary and as a member of the board of directors at International Air Bahamas. At the same time, he served as vice chairman and as a member of the board of directors executive committee at Cargolux Airlines. As senior vice president of corporate planning, Einarsson was instrumental in aircraft acquisitions, assisted in the development of the B-747-400 freighter, created operational flexibility within the airline, and acquired the appropriate aircraft at the appropriate time.
