Slowing of CCSP Process Raises Concerns About August 2010 Deadline

Even though the August 2010 deadline for 100% screening of air cargo transported on passenger aircraft is little more than a year away, applications to join the Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP) are slowing. This has raised concerns about whether the 100% mandate can be reached without significant commercial disruption. In a PowerPoint and summary document, TSA outlines the reasons for these concern, as well as incentives for joining the CCSP before August 1, 2009.

GAO Addresses Safety of Small All Cargo Carriers
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a study concluding that safety issues for small air cargo carriers need to be better identified and addressed. Among other things, GAO calls for improved data collection on carrier operations, targeted safety programs and flight risk assessments. For the full report, click here.

GAO Study on Emissions
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report surveying existing research and concluding that aircraft greenhouse gas emissions  are likely to grow in the future. EU Seeking Comments on Airline Assignments for Emissions Monitoring
The European Commission has published a list, linking international airlines with service in EU countries to a specific EU member state for purposes of ensuring compliance with the EU emissions trading scheme.
