Cargo 2000 is an initiative by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to introduce a new quality management system for air cargo. It aims to improve the efficiency of the air cargo supply chain by implementing new processes, backed by quality standards, among airlines, forwarders, trucking companies, ground handlers, and information technology suppliers. Cargo 2000 cuts in half the number of individual processes in the air cargo supply chain, simplifying and reducing paperwork, and saving labor and time resources. It tracks information on shipments, providing critical information to all parties and allowing for rapid response to service anomalies.
TIACA strongly supports efforts to increase the efficiency of the air cargo supply chain, particularly by encouraging movement towards a paperless environment, and to improve service for air cargo customers. We believe Cargo 2000 is an important initiative in this regard. Cargo 2000’s creation of performance benchmarks and its thorough monitoring and reporting on shipments should help optimize the air cargo supply chain to the benefit of all participants. TIACA supports efforts to expand Cargo 2000 to additional members of the air cargo supply chain.
