Camille Allaz

Camille Allaz, former Executive Vice President Cargo for Air France and one of the industry’s leading historians is the latest industry leader being honored with a place in The International Air Cargo Association’s (TIACA) Hall of Fame.

Mr. Allaz has been selected as the 2011 recipient of this prestigious award for his innovative leadership in the air cargo industry and for his contribution in creating one of the best historical guides to the growth and importance of our industry. During his tenure as Senior Vice President of Air France Cargo, it developed as one of the world’s leading air cargo airlines and, in 1997, he was placed on the TIACA ‘Roll of Honor’ for his work with the airline.

After earning a degree in Political Sciences and Law from the Institute of Political Etudes and serving three years in the Army, Mr. Allaz joined Air France on December 5, 1960. His first appointment saw him take charge of cargo market research and forecasting. In this position he contributed to the introduction of the Boeing 707 freighter to the Air France fleet. He subsequently rose through the executive ranks to become Executive Vice President of Cargo Marketing & Sales and Chairman of Air Cargo in 1988. In 1990, he was promoted again to President of Groupe Air France Cargo, consisting of UTA, Air Inter and Air France and, two years later, he was appointed Executive Vice President of Cargo for Air France. He retired in 1994.  

Throughout his tenure with Air France, he was held in high esteem and recognized by the Air France team and clients as a man of integrity, vision, courage and modesty. 

Since his retirement, Mr. Allaz has written ‘The History of Air Cargo and Airmail from the 18th Century’, originally written in French in 1998 and co-published in English by TIACA in 2004.   The content charts the development of the industry to the modern day. His historical research has been described as brilliant ensuring no aspect of the development of airmail or cargo escaped Mr. Allaz’ discerning eye. He is a true scholar, having the ability to fit his research into the general framework of political, military, economic and aviation history.

Mr. Allaz was awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, the highest Civilian decoration in France and he was awarded with two Croix de la Valeur Militaire citations, a military decoration of France that recognizes an individual’s courage in theaters of operations.

He continues sharing his knowledge by teaching at colleges and universities.
