Late Geoffrey Bridges

Geoff Bridges joined British Airways, previously a

Gunnery Officer in the royal Artillery, as a Management Trainee. He moved

to Marketing after a long series of increasingly important commercial

overseas postings, his last being Manager Australia and Manager Canada.

Promoted back to the United Kingdom, he was given the responsibility for

the UK Cargo Business as General Manager Cargo. He subsequently assumed

worldwide responsibilities as Controller Cargo. This was followed by

serving a two-year role responsible for both Passenger and Cargo as

General Manager Marketing and Traffic in the European Services Division.

Between 1983 and 1989 as Managing Director Cargo, he was for the six most

successful years in British Airways history, responsible for Cargo and

Mail activities as a Strategic Business Enterprise.

He joined Air Canada in 1989 and achieved his mandate and repositioned Air

Canada as a World Ranking Cargo Airline. In 1991 Air Canada achieved the

world's fastest international growth. In January 1993 Geoff Bridges became

the General Director (CX) of the embryonic airline Air Russia.

He has served as Chairman of Bridges Worldwide - The Largest Global

provider of wholesale express networks-since 1989. He helped pioneer

differentiated cargo services with the development of express and

perishables products.

Geoff was a Fellow of both The Chartered Institute of Transport, The

Institute of Logistics and Transport, Past Chairman, IATA Traffic

Committee (4 years), Director of International Freight Conference,

Liveryman of Worship Company of Marketers and Freeman of the City of

London.

He is a the Past President of the International Air Cargo Association

(1998 - 2000).

Geoff was awarded the International Freighting Weekly's(IFW) Special

Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the

development and promotion of the air cargro industry in 2003.
