Hall of Fame 2014 - Jacques Ancher

Jacques Ancher

Jacques Ancher led KLM Cargo for over 10 years prior to his retirement in 1999. During his tenure he changed the industry and the way air cargo was perceived in many airline boardrooms. He was a bold, innovative and creative leader, unafraid of taking risk to demonstrate the need for change if cargo was to remain relevant to scheduled passenger airlines. The changes he sought and engineered were designed to assure a viable, contributing air cargo business for combination carriers in a period where integrators had raised stakes so high. His professionalism extended well beyond KLM issues of the day and he understood that the industry as a whole had to evolve for it to survive. He sought to impact that change by personal example and conviction, making sure that his business was always in professional hands, recruiting the best and brightest staff he could find, regardless of their nationality, while empowering them to affect change, make a difference and help air cargo reposition itself within KLM and by example, in other carriers as well. He was one of the first to segment products and dedicate specialist to them and a pioneer in using ACMI freighters to supplement capacity for use by his clients. Jacques Ancher can also be credited with openly challenging legacy relationships which he knew required renewal on many levels and by doing so, he stimulated an industry wide recognition of the importance of air cargo to the business and financial well-being of all its participants; airlines, integrators, and logistics professionals. His efforts were tireless and widely recognized.
