The likes of Amazon, Alibaba, Google, Walmart, eBay, Lazada & Mall for Africa are just some of the Companies that have emerged as the major market-leading players in the growing e-Commerce demand setting new trends for the online shopping choices for products and services by consumers worldwide.


Just as e-Commerce has enabled and changed the way customers shop, consumer demands for service expectations has shifted and altered, creating new ways of sourcing, purchasing, movement and delivery of goods globally.

According to recent research from DHL, which describes the “e” business model as the “21stcentury spice trade”, cross-border retail volumes are predicted to increase at an annual average rate of 25% between 2015 and 2020–from $300bn to $900bn; twice the pace of domestic e-Commerce growth.


A Transport Intelligence report states “Online sales growth is rapid with a Global CAGR of 15.6%expected on average (2016-2020). This is causing many Global and local retailers to ‘retool’ their supply chains, adopting omni channel strategies and investing in technological enhancements to keep up with consumer demand and the pace of change.

A recent survey conducted with logistics service providers told us that they want to be a part of the e-Commerce phenomena which is growing globally in double digits in just 5 short years since its inception on a broad scale.China alone is conducting USD 1.4 trillion dollars of business presently in this vertical with the rest of the world at $600 Billion and growing. Estimates are that global e-Commerce transactions will grow at the rate of 13.5% per annum to exceed USD 4 trillion in the next 4 years.The “eGiants” are contributing to the growth in e-commerce logistics via its technology capabilities. Amazon is scaling up its massive supply chain and transportation fleet, as it incorporates end to end e-Commerce capabilities further into its overall strategy. While other e-Commerce players are designing logistics networks via partnerships and aggressively expanding this network globally.


WCA has launched a dedicated network for companies that want to be part of the e-Commerce evolution through participation in its e-Commerce cross border distribution solutions. From first mile to last mile, they have also designed and implemented an industry first e-Commerce certification program via an online process that includes conducting its own onsite audits of members’ e-Commerce capabilities for verification to be approved for certification and listing on their global directory. These qualified e-Commerce service providers can be accessed by any other network member by specific capability and more importantly eTailer platforms that are looking for cross border logistics providers with reach, value, transparency and local market expertise including fulfillment and reverse logistics solutions on one platform.


The network had in excess of 357 members joining in its first year, with 80 members already certified and listed within its program. The WCA eCommerce network also provides its members the opportunity to actively participate further in the e-Commerce world through forums, workshops, webinars and global conferences it organizes.
