My Reflections as Chairman of TIACA

As I reflect on 26th May, 2015 the day I took over as a chairman of TIACA, there were mixed feelings of taking on a new challenge and at the same time an excitement on the opportunity to contribute to the Air cargo industry.

During this tenure my 03 beliefs about Associations have been reconfirmed:

1.Associations can do what Corporations Can't- By bringing in the element of neutrality, winning the trust of regulators and creating a unified voice from diverse industries or even making competitors work together for a common cause.

2.Associations are created as not-for-profit but need profits to serve and sustain – The objective is undoubtedly a not for profit set-up but profits are of paramount importance to be able to invest into initiatives that serve the industry. So initiatives that earn revenue for an organization help make it more vibrant and engaged.

3.Membership involvement is key to success – Associations act as the catalyst to any initiative but the members need to be intensely involved, to provide meaning and direction to the working of any association. As Members, we can serve ourselves at best when we serve the Association that we are part of.

Well the time has moved very fast and I handover the reins to the new Chairman next week. As I look back there is a sense of achievement and driving collaboration that has been initiated in an unprecedented way.

We now have a board truly representative of our global character that has members from diverse regions like South Korea, Singapore, Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Our engagement with Regulators went beyond just industry interactions to collaboration on projects with ICAO in areas of Events, Trainings, Technology and Cargo Service Quality.

Organization of the very successful LEAD Summit at ACF’2016 in Paris, which witnessed heads of ICAO & WCO and Board members of TIACA interacting with industry leaders from 27 different countries across the globe, on various issues that impact the efficiency in the air cargo supply chain.

We have also looked inward at our operations and significantly reduced costs in the last 2 years, while looking at new initiatives for revenue enhancement. The newly constituted strategic Think Tank with eminent members on it, will take this initiative forward, to build a TIACA that is more stronger, engaged and relevant to the Industry.

Finally, I would like to thank each of the valued TIACA members for the trust placed in me, I will cherish this tenure for a lifetime for the friendships built. I wish the new team of TIACA Officers all success as they take this great Association forward.

I look forward to seeing some of you in Miami next week or as our paths cross in our travels.

Sanjiv Edward

TIACA Chairman
