Stanley Hui Hon-Chung
Director & Chief Executive Officer
Dragonair

Stanley Hui Hon-Chung is being inducted into the TIACA 2006 Hall of Fame in recognition of his foresight and professional leadership in building a successful freighter service in a very short time. His achievements have contributed greatly to the current rise in China’s trade globally.

Mr. Hui joined Dragonair as Chief Executive Officer in February 1997, and has overseen its growth and development into an international, award-winning airline with a growing presence in the all-cargo arena. Dragonair’s network of freighter services currently spans half the globe and serves many markets where Dragonair previously had no presence. Since he became CEO the airline has tripled its fleet size.

When Boeing announced its freighter conversion programme for B747-400s in 2003, Dragonair seized the opportunity and announced its decision to acquire five converted B747-400 freighters from Singapore Airlines in early 2004 Dragonair will take delivery of these five aircraft between 2006 and 2008, increasing Dragonair’s total operating cargo fleet to 11 – all in the space of just eight years.

Mr. Hui began his airline career when he joined Cathay Pacific Airways as a Management Trainee in 1975. He became Cathay’s Manager, International Affairs, and represented the airline in government negotiations with various countries on Air Service Agreements for Hong Kong in preparation for the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997.

Mr. Hui served as Chief Operating Officer of all-cargo Air Hong Kong from 1994 until 1997 when he accepted the position of CEO of Dragonair.

Dragonair was named Cargo Airline of the Year 2005 by the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA) for “having the greatest impact on the development of the air cargo industry in the region”. Sydney-based CAPA pointed out that Dragonair’s “growth has been built on the phenomenal rise in China’s trade with partners worldwide and prudent network and capacity decisions.”
