Quickly
moving goods from the various far corners of the earth transforming the
wonder of this marvelous technology we have from Boeing and Airbus and many
other vendors and suppliers into the world of commercial reality. And I
apologize for preaching to the choir, but I think sometimes even those of
us who are actually in the industry day-to-day don’t realize quite
how much the world has come to depend on our industry. A few facts from
Boeing’s recent air cargo study emphasize pretty well that growth
has been solid over many, many years. |

Today
I will explain why I am very confident about the future, and how lucky we
are to be part of this great industry of ours. I will also explain how the
economic growth and pace of change is increasing dramatically. In one day
in 1999 there was more trade than in the whole of 1949, more scientific
research than in the whole of 1960, more telephone calls made in the whole
of 1983 and finally more E- mails sent than in the whole of 1996. |

To
some, the idea that some of the worlds’ major Post Offices are becoming
entrepreneurial worldwide logistics organisations is not only very strange
but, almost impossible to contemplate. But, this is certainly the mission
of several Post Offices and will create many opportunities for the air transport
industry. |
