Swedish optimism despite temporary decline in cargo
May 5, 2008 (newstodate): Sweden's Gothenburg Landvetter Airport remains optimistic about its cargo business despite a decline in total volumes in 2008. During this year's Q1, the decline in volumes handled at the airport was 23 percent, to 12,407 tonnes, including 6,250 tonnes of imports, down 28 percent, and 6,177 tonnes of exports, down 17 percent. -The reason behind this decline is the pull-out of freigher services by Cargolux and MAS since last summer, says Lena Stavmo, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport Route & Aviation Development Manager. -Comparisons between 2008 and 2007 will thus remain blurred until fresh statistics from the start of this year's second half, when a more reliable picture will return.

Russian plan for airport special economic zones
May 8, 2008 (newstodate): The Russian ministry of economic development and trade has completed the selection of proposals for establishing special economic zones around Russian ports and airports. The ministry received a total of 20 proposals, including nine from airports, and 17 of these have been shortlisted for further investigation. Succesful proposals will be able to draw financing from state sources to build new facilities for economic and free trade zones.
Lufthansa Cargo Nordics: 2008 to be a year of challenge
May 9, 2008 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo was basically satisfied with its performance in the Nordic markets in 2007, but admits it was a difficult year. -On a global scale, Lufthansa Cargo had a good year, despite the many challenges including rising surcharges, spiralling fuel costs and volatile exhange rates, says Kay Wichmann, Lufthansa Cargo Nordics. -In the Nordic markets we also performed quite well, but we did not meet all targets. At the end of the day we were much affected by increasing competition and strong pressure on rates, which hit all players in the market.
