Shanghai becoming too hot for carriers - report
SHANGHAI, Apr 8 (WorldACD) - Freighter operators, who flocked to China in recent years, are less sanguine at the moment, thanks to yield erosion that has turned the previous bonanza into a challenging market, CargoNews Asia reported. Delta, which started daily flights from its Atlanta hub to Shanghai with B777 aircraft on March 30, described the new route as highly promising from a cargo perspective, and American Airlines, intends to launch flights between Chicago and Beijing next year.
'Open skies' could mean airline mergers
LONDON, April 9 (WorldACD) - The next round of U.S./E.U. "open skies" talks set to start in May could lay the groundwork for trans-Atlantic airline mergers -- but proponents of greater European involvement in U.S. carriers must overcome hurdles in Washington.
Congress blasts FAA over airline cancellations
WASHINGTON, April 11 (WorldACD) - Outrage over mass cancellations of American Airlines flights spilled into Congress as lawmakers blamed the Federal Aviation Administration for indirectly contributing to the hardships shouldered by thousands of stranded travelers. Nicholas Sabatini, the FAA's associate administrator for safety, Thursday endured relentless questions by members of a Senate subcommittee on aviation, who took turns denouncing "systematic" regulatory failures by the FAA. Several suggested that the cancellations may not have been necessary if the agency had been tougher in the past.
