Freight growth continues to be sluggish – IATA
GENEVA, Jan 4 (WorldACD) - Freight growth continues to be sluggish, reflecting strong competition with sea shipping and uncertainty over the economic outlook for 2008, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) says in its latest monthly traffic bulletin. International freight traffic growth slowed to 3.5 pct in November, down from 3.6 pct in October. Over the first 11 months of 2007, freight demand grew 3.9 pct, well below the 4.8 pct recorded over the same period in 2006, the bulletin adds.
HK and Mainland China liberalise airfreight routes
BEIJING, Jan 7 (WorldACD) - China's General Administration of Civil Aviation and the Transport and Housing Bureau of Hong Kong have signed a memorandum of understanding to liberalise aviation between the Special Administrative Region and the mainland.
Atlanta to stage TIACA Forum & Exhibition
ATLANTA, Jan 8 (WorldACD) - Atlanta has won the bid to host The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) International Air Cargo Forum & Exhibition in 2012 which will mark the 50th anniversary of the event. Co-incidentally, Atlanta was the venue of the Association’s first-ever industry event in 1962.
Delta may start formal merger talks with two carriers
ATLANTA, Jan 10 (WorldACD) - Delta Air Lines Inc. directors on Friday will be asked to permit the airline's new chief executive, Richard Anderson, to begin formal merger discussions with both Northwest Airlines Corp. and UAL Corp., parent of United Airlines, with the idea that Delta ultimately will choose between the two, the Wall Street Journal said.
