Russian carrier sees cargo steeply rising

World Bank looking at Russian airport project
- Sep 25, 2007 (newstodate): The World Bank may support Tatarstan in modernising Kazan International Airport.
A manager of the World Bank's Infrastructure Economics and Finance Department is currently visiting Tatarstan to meet with top officials of the Tatarstan Republic.
At the current stage the World Bank considers itself a strategic consultant, but is has not ruled out the possibility of supporting the reconstruction of the airport financially.
The World Bank might also help the airport in connecting it with an international partner to take a stake in the project.
The reconstruction project is estimated to carry a price tag of USD40-50 million for the airport to meet fully international standards

Almaty: Kazakhstan's airfreight gateway
- Sep 26, 2007 (newstodate): Kazakhstan's Almaty Airport is seeing its total cargo volumes rising fast.
In 2006 the airport handled a total of 53,540 tonnes of air cargo, up 40 percent, and the airport expects a further increase in 2007 by almost 50 percent, to about 80,000 tonnes.
In 2006, 33 percent of the total volume was transit airfreight, up 36.2 percent y-o-y to 17,606 tonnes.
Imports, 29,254 tonnes, comprised 54.6 percent of the total volumes and rose by 46.3 percent.
Finally exports, comprising in 2006 12.4 percent of the total volume, increased by 23.5 percent.
Today about 70 percent of Kazakhstan's aggregated air cargo pass through Almaty Airport that also handles some 60 percent of the country's passenger volumes.

Malaysia Airlines Cargo, Uzbekistan Airways to cooperate
- Sep 28, 2007 (newstodate): Malaysia Airlines Cargo and Uzbekistan Airways are reportedly in talks to set up a formal partnership before the end of this year.
Plans are to exchange cargo at Tashkent Airport, with Malaysia Airlines Cargo to lift Uzbekistan Airways's cargo to Europe while Air Uzbekistan will distribute Malaysia Airlines Cargo's shipments in the CIS region.
Malaysia Airlines Cargo currently operates two weekly freighter services at Tashkent Airport with full traffic rights, allowing the company to fly imports and exports to and from the CIS markets on the operation from Amsterdam and Basel via Tashkent to Pudong, China, and v.v.
