Helsinki: potential transfer hub for US-Asia flights

Apr 10, 2008 (newstodate): Finnair has plans to build up a network of US-Asia transfer flights via Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
Speaking to Russian journalists, Jukka Hienonen, Finnair president and executive director said Helsinki Vantaa Airport could become an alternative to other European transit hubs.
-The most popular long-haul flights pass over Finland. Take the 14 hours flights from New York to Delhi. Fuel expenditure on a direct flight is 20 percent higher compared to a transit flight, and landing in Helsinki also increases the occupancy of the aircraft.
