Russia to build new large airport

Feb 28, 2008 (newstodate): Plans are progresssing for construction of a new airport at Taganrog Yuzhny, near Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
The aircraft manufacturing company Beriev, based at Taganrog, will invest significantly in the project that will extend till 2012.
Rostovs-on-Don's current airport has a cargo capacity at 420 tonnes per day, but the projected airport will be able to handle up to 70,000 tonnes of cargo per year, as well as eight million passengers.
The new airport will have a 4,200 m runway capable of handling aircraft of the size of the Airbus A380 or Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
40-50 percent of the investments are expected to be footed by the Russian Federal government.
