Carrier cuts US flights
CHICAGO, Jan 23 (WorldACD) - United Airlines is slashing its domestic flight schedule, with the cuts falling heaviest at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, as it fights to stay aloft amid a deteriorating economic environment.
The Chicago-based carrier is following an unorthodox formula that helped it earn its first annual profit in seven years in 2007: To make money, fly less in North America's treacherous markets.
United began cutting capacity last spring, earlier than its rivals, and the results showed in the carrier's earnings report released Tuesday.
