Economic outlook puts drag on cargo growth - IATA
GENEVA, Dec 5 (WorldACD) - The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA)
latest monthly traffic bulletin shows that international freight traffic increased by 3.6 percent in October on the same month in 2006.
However, the rate of growth was down on the five percent recorded in September and "partly reverses the strong pick up of freight growth seen in mid-2007."
“Economic volatility is having a more immediate effect on international air freight demand,” the bulletin adds.
Year-to-date figures show four percent growth in traffic on the corresponding period last year.
“Leading air freight indicators such as semi conductor shipments and global manufacturing business confidence levels have slowed in recent months. Demand for air freight is still expected to grow but at a slower pace for the remainder of the year,” the bulletin continues.
