Astana Airport: high hopes for cargo growth

Oct 24, 2007 (newstodate): Kazkahstan's Astana Airport is seeing bright prospects for its cargo growth.
Since Lufthansa Cargo selected Astana Airport to become the carrier's largest cargo hub outside Germany from May, 2006, cargo volumes through the airport have grown fast.
In 2006 Astana Airport's cargo terminal handled only 6,000 tonnes of shipments. But during the first eight months of this year, volumes increased to 8,660 tonnes, and the airport now expects to rise to some 55,500 tonnes by 2012.
Astana Airport's cargo terminal offers all cargo services including perishables, dangerous goods handling and VAL, and has the capacity to handle up to 600 tonnes of cargo per day.
