Kazakh cargo facility to compete for Chinese traffic

Sep 19, 2007 (newstodate): The new multi-modal cargo facility at Almaty, Kazkahstan, built by Europe Asia Transit, EAT, will position itself as a transit hub for Chinese exports.
-The Chinese border is only 350 km from Almaty, close to Urumqi, Xinjiang, that is emerging as a new major industrial centre, says Vladimir Khan, EAT project director.
-With our transloading facilities at the airport interfacing with rail, road and air transportation, we can compete with Dubai's sea/air solution for Chinese exports.
-Total leadtime for Chinese exports to Europe via Dubai is 14 days. We can reduce this to 10 days via our facility here at Almaty.
-China's airports are increasingly congested, so our solution will gain momentum, with only six hours transportation time to the Chinese border, says Mr Khan.
