RACCA Wants More Time To Comment On Air Cargo Security Proposal (January 7th)
RACCA – Request Extension Of Comment Period
The Regional Air Cargo Carriers Association (RACCA) requested an extension from the DOT on the comment period for proposed air cargo security requirements. In the docket, RACCA points out that its members are in the middle of their busiest time of the year and that the requirements are numerous and complicated and don’t lend themselves well to easy, quick analysis.
IATA Calls On Canadian Government To Lower “Crown Rent” Charged To Local Airports (January 5th)
Canadian Government Milks Air Transport Cash Cow Again
On January 1st, the Canadian government raised Crown rents 6.5% over the 2004 levels. The so-called Crown rent is supposed to reimburse the government for losses incurred when it divested itself from running the airports. According to IATA, these rents are not reinvested in aviation infrastructure but go directly into the government’s general revenues.
FAA Ruling Would Shut Down Night Cargo Flights (January 2nd)
Shortage Of Controllers Threatens Cargo Flights At Toledo Express
The FAA is discussing a proposal to save money by shutting down Air Traffic Control towers at smaller airports around the US at night. Many of these smaller airports generate a lot of revenue with cargo flights at night and this decision could seriously dent their profits.
