The Walter H. Johnson, Jr. PhD Scholarship submission deadline has been extended to May 31, 2008
The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) is pleased to announce that
the Walter H. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Award 2008, a $25,000 scholarship, is open for nominations. The scholarship was initiated in memory of Walter H. Johnson, Jr. a former TIACA President and Chairman of the Association’s Education Committee who sadly passed away.
The scholarship will be awarded to a PhD candidate in logistics, aviation management, transportation, international business, law or related fields whose dissertation focus is on air commerce. The student receiving the award will be expected to complete the PhD requirements of the University making the nomination. The award is to be used for research, and other expenses related to the completion of the proposed topic.
Please note that all
nominations must be received before May 31, 2008. TIACA will select the awardee
by June 15, 2008. The head of the school must provide, in writing, reasons why
the school accepted the proposed thesis topic and why the individual student
is being recommended for the scholarship. Please address it to the attention
of Dora Kay, Chairman of the Education Committee, The International Air Cargo
Association, P.O. Box 661510, Miami, FL 33266-1510 USA or by e-mail to Secgen@tiaca.org
The selection of the winning student by TIACA’s Education Committee will be based on a competition among the nominated candidates. The student’s proposed thesis will be the primary source of information used to select the winner. It will be evaluated with respect to the topic’s relevance, timeliness and usability. Academic and professional recommendations will also be considered. The candidate proposal should include the name and qualifications of the student and a 5 to 10 page summary of the thesis. Qualifications also include graduate course transcripts and recommendations from professors and masters and doctoral advisors.
TIACA will provide a copy of the winning thesis paper to its Trustee members and it will be placed on the TIACA website for other members to view. The student and school retain the right to publish the paper as they wish once it has been completed and submitted to TIACA.
The winner will be formally announced at TIACA’s Executive Conference and Annual General Meeting 2008.
