Far East operators agree freighter deal
|
Singapore Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo) and China Cargo Airlines have begun operating joint freighter services connecting Singapore and Shanghai.
SIA Cargo already owns 16 percent of the Shanghai-based China Cargo Airlines and the deal to jointly offer freighter services between the two home hubs forms part of a larger series of initiatives that are intended to offer mutual benefits.
Collaboration includes, for example, a higher degree of integrated ground handling at Shanghai Pudong and Singapore Changi international airports, with the aim of improving freight transhipment times.
"We have anticipated a greater partnership with China Cargo Airlines since we signed the joint venture agreement in 2010," noted Singapore Airlines Cargo president, Tan Kai Ping.
Zhu Yimin, president of China Cargo Airlines, pointed out: "The joint freighter services will enable the two airlines to tap into each other's network through our hubs.
"There will be more direct access to destinations in domestic China on China Cargo's network whilst we will be able to tap (into) Singapore Airlines Cargo's network in the Middle East, Africa, Australia and Latin America, thereby providing a more comprehensive and exclusive network for customers of both airlines."
