Airbus rewarded at the World Investment Conference
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the World Investment Conference in La Baule, the world leading aircraft manufacturer received the Trophy for the Best European Investor in Europe, thus rewarding the efforts made by the group in Europe over the last decade both in terms of job creations and investments.
Over the last ten years Airbus has created some 15,000 net jobs and invested more than €14 billion in its fifteen European sites spread between four countries. Although Europe represents only 15% of its customer base, Airbus remains firmly attached to its European roots.
“I am deeply honoured that Airbus is receiving this distinction which pays tribute to our strategy for the last 40 years and which continues today: to develop and manufacture the world’s best aircraft in Europe. Our continent is overflowing with talent which we must attract, and innovations that benefit our industrial facilities which we are constantly expanding and modernising,” said Fabrice Brégier, Airbus President and CEO.
This recruitment meets the needs generated by the strong growth of Airbus’ activities, driven by the near doubling of its aircraft production in ten years, along with the development and launch of new programmes.
In 2012, Airbus will have hired in total around 4,000 people, including 30% specialist operators for its production and final assembly sites and about 70% engineers and managers. 40% of these jobs are open to young graduates. Airbus is also making diversity one of its priorities with the target of having 25% women among the people hired this year.
Today aviation represents 15 million jobs worldwide and generates the equivalent of €400 billion in terms of Gross Domestic Product. If this sector of activity was a country, it would be the 21st world power.
In the other categories, 3M obtained the Trophy for the Best American Investor in Europe and Hitachi that of Best Asian Investor.
“Europe finds itself at a crossroads today. On the occasion of the special 10th anniversary of the World Investment Conference Europe, we have chosen to honour three businesses that have made outstanding contributions to economic development in Europe over the last ten years through their direct investments,” declared Jean Bernard Guerrée, CEO of World Investment Conferences.
