KCI Airport Passenger Traffic Up 5.3 Percent in March
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 878,871 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in March, which represents an increase of 5.3 percent from March 2011. Passenger boardings at KCI were up 6.7 percent, with a total of 445,058 during March. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 1,165,483, an increase of 7.7 percent from the same period last year.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for March was 189. Service was offered to 48 nonstop markets. There was an average of 36,742 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, up 0.3 percent from last year.
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 0.1 percent in March. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is up 2.9 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during March amounted to over 16 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 2.1 percent. Air mail for March was down 56.1 percent from March 2011. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for March.
