Cargolux B747-8F goes to work
The new B747-8 freighter which arrived at Luxembourg-based carrier Cargolux recently (ACW, 17 October, p1) immediately went into commercial service and made its first revenue-earning landing in Italy last week.
At Milan-Malpensa International airport, cargo handler Alha Airport loaded nine high-performance cars onto the freighter before it returned to its Luxembourg home base.
The aircraft then flew a service to Dubai, where it was welcomed with a traditional water salute from the gateway's fire service. Next, it undertook a Luxembourg - Hong Kong - Baku - Budapest - Luxembourg routeing.
A second B747-8F has now joined the airline's fleet. Cargolux has a total of 13 B747-8Fs on order - its 10-aircraft launch commitment in 2005 was followed in 2007 by a confirmation for three additional freighters.
