First B747-8 freighter arrives at Cargolux
Luxembourg-based carrier Cargolux has finally taken delivery of the first B747-8 freighter to be offered to the market by Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Originally scheduled for handover on 19 September, the delayed delivery took place after what freighter operator Cargolux described as "the resolution of contractual issues between Boeing, (engine maker) GE and Cargolux related to performance of the aircraft and the engines".
Frank Reimen, president and CEO of the all-cargo airline, said he was delighted to have reached that agreement, adding: "The 747-8 freighter will be a driver of profitable growth for Cargolux."
Observing that the new freighter will "help Cargolux maintain its position as an industry leader", Reimen also pointed to the "efficiency and environmental benefits that come with this great airplane".
Following delivery of the aircraft at Boeing's Everett facility, the B747-8F took off for Seattle-Tacoma International airport - also in Washington state - to load its first consignment of commercial cargo and then depart for its new home base at Luxembourg's Findel International airport.
